The Missing Voices of Women
in Music and Music News

This report is the fourth in the multi-award-winning Missing Perspectives series of reports. It examines women’s recognition in the Grammys in the past eight years, comparing the false overly positive narratives of the Recording Academy and news media with the much grimmer reality of women’s marginalisation as nominees and winners. It identifies five existing biases that lead to the chasm between reporting and reality and articulates structural barriers that women face. The report also outlines numerous solutions for ensuring future accurate reporting of the reality for women in music.
